Grant Overview
Ohio faces significant health disparities, particularly among low-income families and minority populations. According to the Ohio Department of Health, 13% of Ohio's children live in poverty, and these families often lack access to preventative healthcare services. In fact, a 2020 report found that 22% of Ohio's low-income children lacked health insurance, compared to 5% statewide. Ohio's Rural Healthcare Landscape is characterized by provider shortages and limited access to specialized care. Who is Most Affected in Ohio? Low-income families, minority populations, and rural residents are disproportionately affected by these health disparities. To address this issue, the grant will fund preventative health screenings for families in Ohio, targeting underserved populations. By establishing partnerships with local health organizations, the initiative aims to increase health education and preventive care utilization. Ohio's Health Infrastructure, including its network of community health centers, will be leveraged to support the initiative. The state's major industries, such as manufacturing and healthcare, will also be considered when evaluating applications. With a diverse population and a mix of urban and rural areas, Ohio's unique challenges will be addressed through this funding. Unlike neighboring Michigan, Ohio's grant application requires a focus on preventative care and health education. Ohio's population density of 283 people per square mile and its aging population will also be taken into account.
