Summary

The purpose is to support nonprofit efforts that address significant community needs that aren’t already being fully served, or to help existing organizations expand in meaningful ways. Projects might include launching something new, expanding or scaling an existing initiative, capital improvements, capacity building (such as improving infrastructure, internal management, or fundraising), or otherwise increasing impact in areas like education, health, arts, environment, human services.

To be eligible, organizations must be well established (typically at least two years of operation), be tax-exempt, demonstrate sustainability, and show that their proposed project has not been addressed by other community resources. The organization should demonstrate collaboration, inclusion, and address underserved populations. They usually require that past reporting obligations (if the nonprofit has received prior grants) are up to date.

Grant amounts are mid-sized: requests generally range from modest several thousands up to amounts that might be tens of thousands of dollars. There is often a rule that the requested grant should not exceed a percentage of the total project budget, to ensure shared investment in the project.

Applications are reviewed in cycles throughout the year (for example, winter, summer, and fall deadlines). Decisions are made some weeks after each submission deadline. The number and size of grants awarded depends on how much funding is available in each cycle and any restrictions donors have placed.

This opportunity benefits nonprofits that have clear project plans, realistic goals, capacity to carry the work forward, and a meaningful potential for impact in the local community. If your nonprofit is in the Greater Dayton area, has a solid track record, and a project that meets unmet local need, this grant might be a strong fit.

If you are located in Ohio and working in the area of Community/Economic Development, this funding opportunity may be a good fit. For more relevant grant options that support your work and priorities, visit The Grant Portal and use the Search Grant tool to find opportunities.
