Summary

This grant program supports nonprofit organizations based in certain counties of Ohio. The foundation focuses on charitable work in the arts, culture and humanities; education; environment; health/medical; human services; plus public and society benefit. The geographic coverage includes several contiguous counties in and around the Ohio region where the foundation operates.

Organizations must be tax‐exempt under IRS rules (501(c)(3)), non‑governmental, and generally not affiliated with religious organizations unless their work is non‑religious. The foundation sometimes accepts proposals via fiscal sponsorships under special conditions.

There are two grant cycles per year, and applicants begin by submitting a short “Request Summary” during fixed windows (end of January or end of July). If the foundation is interested, they then invite a full proposal, which is due in mid‑March or mid‑September. Funding decisions occur in April and October, with grants paid shortly thereafter.

Some uses are not eligible. Capital construction, foreign purposes, multi‑year grants, travel expenses, support for individual public schools or public school districts, or event sponsorships are rarely or never funded. Grants to individuals are not accepted.

In recent years millions of dollars across its various program areas have been awarded. For example, substantial funding is going to human services and arts/culture, with smaller amounts going to environment, education, and public‑society benefit.

The grant benefits include financial support to carry out mission‑driven programs, with an expectation of clear accountability, measurable impact, and alignment with the foundation’s focus areas. Working with them means following their timeline, abiding by reporting requirements, and ensuring your organization meets their eligibility criteria.
